Envato has been named Australia’s Coolest Company for Women by careers website JobAdvisor.

This is the first year JobAdvisor has introduced the Coolest Company for Women category, which aims to uncover and reward companies driving equal opportunities and fostering working environments where women can thrive.

“Getting more women into tech helps make Australia’s future stronger and brighter,” said Envato CEO Collis Ta’eed.

“That’s why Envato, like many other tech companies, is working hard to make sure we’re as diverse and inclusive as possible. I’m really excited to see us recognised as Australia’s coolest company for women, both because it’ll help us access more great talent and because a great workplace for women translates to a better workplace for everyone.”

Co-founder and executive director Cyan Ta’eed, 2015 Telstra Victoria Business Woman of the Year, added that a strong culture of diversity demands a team effort.

“It’s taken support and action from the board, executive team, and every individual working at Envato,” she explained.

“We’ve embraced flexibility, industry leading parental leave, and rigorous hiring and people practices. Our leaders look for new ways to support women in our workplace because they are engaged and inspired by the possibilities of a truly diverse team.”

“We had entries from some of Australia’s largest tech companies, big banks, consulting firms and global tech businesses, but Envato stood out for its business strategy to make the tech industry more attractive to a wide range of people, including women,” said Job Advisor CEO Ben Hutt.

Award judge Karen Lawson, former CEO of CareerOne, said: “When it comes to women in technology, there has never been a better time to be in this industry. We looked beyond the gimmicks to find companies who ingrained best practice in their workplace.”

“This includes policy decisions and programs that drive awareness of unconscious bias, active pay equity reviews and initiatives to inspire, connect and support not just women but extending programs to men to drive a better outcome,” said Lawson.

HR Director James Law said that, while Envato is proud of the recognition, there’s always more to be done.

“It’s a honour being objectively recognised as an organization working to get more females into tech and create an environment supportive of women in the workforce,” he said.

“But we also recognise we have a lot more to do and can’t wait to continue to improve what we are doing.”

Envato was also named one of the Coolest Companies in Tech for 2015.

In 2014 Envato won the Coolest Company in Tech, and earlier this year was recognised as one of Australia’s best workplaces on the BRW Great Places to Work list.

JobAdvisor’s Coolest Company competition is judged by experts in diversity, culture and recruitment, including Lisa Annese, CEO of Diversity Council Australia, Justin Babet, Founder of JobAdvisor and CEO of JobVibe, Karen Lawson, former CEO of CareerOne and Ben Hutt, CEO of JobAdvisor and Search Party.
