Envato are excited to have placed 17th in the 2016 Best Places to Work Study, a catalogue of the top 50 employers nationally.

The Best Places to Work study is based on one of the world’s most comprehensive studies of workplace culture by Great Place to Work Australia. Studies such as this highlight what employees and job seekers desire in the workplace.

“It makes workplaces better at engaging and motivating people, which in turn makes people happier about their work” James Law, HR Director

“This is an exciting, transformative and competitive time for companies,” said Zrinka Lovrencic, Managing Director of Great Place to Work Australia. “With a services sector heavy economy, employers now need to make a greater effort to improve their workplace cultures in order to retain employees. This competitive pressure benefits everyone, as all workplaces can increase their levels of employee engagement. The companies that have made the 2016 study have risen to this challenge and exemplify workplace culture excellence.”

For Envato, being named one of the Best Places to Work helps acknowledge areas of advancement, as well as identifying where there’s room for improvement. “I’m particularly proud that our results show improved communications and the ability to work from anywhere, as those were areas we didn’t score so well on last time,” says James. Since the 2015 results were released Envato has introduced the ability for team members to work from anywhere in the world for up to three months of the year.

The Envato team have been working hard to ensure that efforts are made to positively influence more than just employees. In particular, Co-founder and Executive Director Cyan Ta’eed has been leading a number of initiatives to improve diversity within both Envato and the industry in general. These include launching a Diversity Value and bringing diversity into regular discussion at Envato. Also, the creation and support of Envato’s LGBTI committee ‘Out’, ensuring inclusive language is used in recruitment practices and advertising is broadened to attract diverse candidates.

Envato sponsors events supporting women in the industry and encouraging women into tech and their work on diversity and inclusiveness was acknowledged with Envato being named Coolest Company for Women in 2015.

All workplaces need to work at going beyond the surface ‘perks’ like free food to get to the heart of what will really keep employees engaged and happy in a workplace, according to James.

“The characteristics of a good workplace are clear direction and goals, a purpose to what you do every day, a good manager and working with good people.”James Law, HR Director
