Envato has this month been confirmed as a National Partner for Code Like a Girl, the Melbourne-based social enterprise that inspires and supports Australian girls and women to achieve coding jobs, and leadership roles in the local tech sector.

The sponsorship comes as part of Envato’s Diversity and Inclusion Plan, which has established goals focussed on expanding the company’s commitment to promoting greater gender equality across the organisation.

The year-long sponsorship will involve a quarterly women’s leadership and development workshop, an ongoing series of presentations and will also see Envato staff connecting with the Code Like a Girl community for mentoring and mentee opportunities.

Abbie Burgess, Envato’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisor, hailed the sponsorship as an important step forward in expanding support for women developers in Victoria’s technology sector.

“At Envato, we take seriously our role as a leader in Australia’s tech community. The need to provide better support for women coders who wish to work in the industry has been a priority for many organisations, and we’re proud to play a role in helping to ensure such support can reach more people than ever before.”

“We’ve had an established relationship with Code Like a Girl for a number of years now, so to be in a position to expand our support of the fantastic work they do is a very pleasing moment for all of us at Envato.”

Code Like a Girl Co-Founder Vanessa Doake said the sponsorship will ensure that more local girls, and aspiring coders all, could have access to their expanded program offering. “Partnering with organisations like Envato that have a genuine commitment to achieving gender equality, particularly in technical fields, is critical for us to achieve our mission to ensure that all girls, regardless of background have the opportunity to develop coding and digital literacy skills and be ready for jobs of the future.”

Envato’s Diversity and Inclusion Plan outlines the company’s commitment to establishing expanded programs that provide greater support towards gender equality, LGBTI and mental health initiatives. One of these priority initiatives includes a Women’s Developer Apprentice program, launched earlier in May.
