Melbourne company Envato’s meteoric rise continues, with one of its websites surging onto a list of the 100 most-visited sites in the world.

It means ThemeForest – part of Envato’s ecosystem of sites that help people get creative – is currently the most popular Australian-owned website on the planet.

The list, determined by Amazon-owned web analytics firm Alexa, calculates the rankings using a combination of daily visitors to the site and page views.

ThemeForest currently sits 93rd on the list, ahead of massive US-based sites like Netflix.com and Dropbox.com.

Launched in 2008, ThemeForest sells themes for websites and other digital projects. It boasts more than 15,000 items for sale, designed by people all over the world.

ThemeForest’s most popular theme has sold more than 80,000 copies.

Ben Chan, Envato’s Director of Strategy and Business Development, is delighted ThemeForest has cracked Alexa’s top 100. “To hear that ThemeForest is now the world’s most popular Australian-owned website is just fantastic and a testament to everybody at Envato, especially our community members,” he says.

“WordPress is now powering 22 percent of the web, and we’re the world’s biggest WordPress theme marketplace. We’re excited to be here, and even more excited for what lies ahead for Envato.”

Chan says the site’s explosive growth has meant authors are achieving their first sales faster than ever.

“In fact, there is only one WordPress theme on ThemeForest with zero sales and it was submitted today. It will probably have its first sale before we leave the office.”

Since its launch in 2006, Envato has paid its international community of designers, authors, freelancers, affiliates and instructors more than $180 million in earnings.

Envato’s marketplaces – ActiveDen, AudioJungle, CodeCanyon, ThemeForest, GraphicRiver, VideoHive, 3DOcean and PhotoDune – are used by more than four million members around the world.

Currently, Envato’s sites are home to more than 5.9 million items, ranging from stock photos to sound clips.
